Generally, a groom goes to the bride’s house to wed, and perform a wedding ceremony in our society. But, as an expression of equal rights for men and women, bride Khadija Akhtar did this coming out of the box, arrives at groom’s house, weds him and took him to her house.

This exceptional, and surprising wedding ceremony took place in Chowgacha village in the district’s Gangni upazila in Bangladesh on Saturday, breaking the age old customs of a marriage ceremony, a bride came to the groom’s house to tie the knot and it also turned the heads of many of the villagers.

college, from Hajrahati village of Chuadanga district, accompanied by the bridesmen and brideswomen, along with a motorcade of seven microbuses, and thirty motorcycles reached groom 27 years old Tarikul Islam Joy’s house in Chowgacha village of Meherpur’s Gangni upazila.

After finishing all the wedding rituals, Khadija took her husband Tarikul to her father’s house at Hajrahati village of Chuadanga district in the afternoon.

The couple seemed very happy with the exceptional wedding. “If boys can bring girls to marriage, why can’t girls?” said Khadija.

Kamruzzaman, the father of the bride, said, “Although I was not sure in the beginning but later I agreed as my daughter was insisting.”

Abdul Mabud, the father of the groom said, “There are many traditions in our patriarchal society. It will help to eradicate gender discrimination in society. Besides, the bride’s family has to spend a huge amount of money for the wedding event. Such an initiative will reduce costs.”
