Robber Asid Jhangeer, 39, jailed after being tackled by brave woman in Walsall

Asid Jhangeer, 39, of Cameron Road, Walsallm who launched a terrifying raid on a shopt in Wolverhampton Road, Walsallshop has been jailed for more than three years – after being snared by a have-a-go-hero.

He jumped over a counter at Wolverhampton Road Post Office in Walsall and loaded up hundreds of pounds worth of cigarettes into a bag on 21 November last year but fled the scene after confronted bay a woman and the failed raid.

Jhangeer had left the knife on the counter and as they tussled she was able to remove a glove he was wearing.

The robber managed to flee but West Midlands Police were able to link him to the crime from DNA testing on both items.

DC Andy Atkinson, from Force CID at Bloxwich, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the shop worker who was threatened with the knife.
“But thanks to the brave actions of the member of the public who confronted Jhangeer we were able to secure vital DNA evidence.

Jhangeer, pleaded guilty to the armed robbery and was jailed for three years and four months at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
