Muzzammil Iqbal, 26, Jailed after caught Drunk and Driving in Nelson

Muzzammil Iqbal, 26, of Fir Street, Nelson was spotted driving a Jaguar in the early hours of the morning was found to be over the drink drive limit and disqualified.

Muzzammil Iqbal, at the time of crime on March 1, was also in breach of a suspended prison sentence imposed last year. He was driving the Jaguar X-Type in Whitehall Street, Nelson, while disqualified and without insurance and with excess alcohol.

The court heard Iqbal had 41 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath of the legal limit 35.

Nick Cassidy, defending Iqbal, said at the time of the offences in March Iqbal was separated from his wife and was associating with a negative peer group.

“He had been consuming alcohol with these friends and one of them asked him to move his car round the corner,” said Mr Cassidy.

Iqbal was jailed for 12 weeks for the offences and a further 8 weeks of the suspended prison sentence was activated.

He was given the suspended sentence after being convicted of detaining a child without lawful authority between June 1, 2018, and June 2, 2018.

Iqbal was also banned from driving for three years after the magistrates were told it was his second drink driving offence within the 10 year qualifying period.
