A 26-year-old Muslim man was told to leave a Southwest Airlines flight after a woman passenger overheard him speaking Arabic on his cell phone.
Khairuldeen Makhzoomi, a 26-year-old Berkeley graduate, was removed from the plane at Los Angeles International Airport in April this year after he ended up his call to his uncle saying, “InshAllah” (meaning God Will).
A woman staring at him as he hung up the phone. Khairuldeen Makhzoomi thought at first she had been irritated by his loud voice. But 2 minutes later police arrived and get him off from plane and started inquiring about what he was talking in arabic.
Later sniffer dogs were brought to sniff his luggage, police also took his wallet. He was not allowed to board the Oakland-bound plane again, and was given a full refund for his air ticket. He booked another flight with Delta.
After this incident young man could not sleep in nights, He called on the airline to apologies since they have failed to do so since 6 April, 2016
Mr Makhzoomi came to the US in 2010 as a legal refugee with his older sister is political science student, he is applying for Master degree in US.
“The US is the land of freedom. People respect the rule of law. How could people be humiliated like this? That was the real shock,” he told The Independent.
