Mother Parveen Bibi Sentenced to death for burning daughter Zeenat Rafiq, 18, in Pakistan

Parveen Bibi confesses to killing 18-year-old Zeenat Rafiq in June for ‘bringing shame to the family’ in marrying without parents’ consent. She was set on fire by her mother Parveen Bibi more than a week after the girl reportedly eloped with Hasan Khan to marry him before a court in Lahore.

Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday sentenced a mother to death in a case of ‘honour killing’ for burning her daughter alive. The court also sentenced her brother Anees to life in prison after the evidence showed her mother and brother had first beaten her, before her mother threw kerosene on her and set her on fire.

After she was burnt alive, none of her family or relatives sought to claim her body, for funeral, finally her husband claimed her body and buried her in night time in the graveyard.

Zeenat was burnt by her family members alive in Factory Area of Lahore, after she eloped with a neighbors boy, whom she eloped and married in court and started living with her husband at his home.

But family of Zeenat could not swallow this bitter reality as it bring them shame, they trick her into home, showing her they have accepted her marriage. But keeping her at home for few days then her mother along with the help of other family members burnt her alive to death in June 2016.
