Man who Killed, Zakir Nawaz, 21, in street in Washwood Heath, is Jailed

Warsame Mohamed, 24, of James Turner Street, Winson Green, jailed for four and a half years after admitting killing Zakir Nawaz, 21 in Washwood Heath.

Zakir Nawaz, 21, known as ‘Rex’, from Stechford, died after being attacked in Highfield Road, Washwood Heath, in September 2016. Nawaz had two young children, one just 10 days old at the time he died.

Nawaz had been in a Fiat driven by his friend when they were involved in a collision with another vehicle on September 10, 2016. Warsame Mohamed was in the vehicle at time of collision and it did not stop.

Nawaz went looking for vehicle and there was a confrontation between two groups in Highfield Road which turned in to a violence and Mohamed kicked at Mr Nawaz.

Nawaz was then stabbed in the chest by another man and he and Mohamed then ran off together.

Illegal immigrant Warsame Mohamed was among the attackers and fled the country following the death. He was arrested in January 2018 by Thames Valley police when he returned back to the UK.

Warsame Mohamed had previously been convicted of supplying heroin and cocaine in April 2015. He had been deported after serving a jail sentence but came back to the UK not long before the attack took place.

However the man who actually inflicted the fatal wound also fled the country and remains at large. In March 2017 Waseem Azram, 29, of Ward End Close, Ward End, was sentenced to two years imprisonment for his part in the incident after admitting a charge of violent disorder.
