Michael McPherson, 27, resident of Tooting Bec, London, jailed for 8 years for throwing acid on face of Samir Hussain, 28, after watching a screening of gangster rap film Straight Outta Compton in in August 2015 at Brighton Magistrates Court, East Sussex.
Samir Hussain had been watching the film with a friend when Michael McPherson and his mate Lee Bates had thrown sweets at Samir Hussain during the movie, which tells the story of the controversial rap group NWA that started the careers of stars Ice Cube and Dr Dre.
Later Michael McPherson and his mate Lee Bates confronted him in the car park where McPherson grabbed a bottle of drain cleaner from his car, throwing it into the victim’s face. His face started to burn immediately. He went straight back to the car and phoned for an ambulance before pouring a bottle of water over his face and right arm.
Michael McPherson admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and assault and was sentenced for 8 years at Brighton Magistrates Court, East Sussex and now he will serve half of his sentence, with the 19 months he has already served taken into account.
Lee Bates of Clapham, London, admitted common assault and was handed a two-year conditional discharge in February at Brighton Magistrates Court, East Sussex.
Samir Hussain said the sentence was not enough as he has been in physical pain ever since the acid attack.
Samir Hussain said it is difficult for him to cope with the psychological effects and that he has sleepless nights when he looks in to mirror.
He said, he has to live with this for the rest of his life, while Michael McPherson will be out of jail after 8 years.
