Ilyas Ashar, 84, resident of in Eccles, Salford, brought a deaf and mute girl aged 10 from Pakistan in 2000 and kept her as a salve at his home.
The victim girl who is deaf and cannot speak, was beaten and slapped often to forced to work for Ilyas and his family as a domestic servant.
The victim girl was accidentally discovered in 2009 by trading standards officers who came in house to investigate the illegal activities. She was taught sign language to describe about what had happened to her.
She was brought to UK as a domestic servant, she was allowed to remain in UK, on an annual basis on condition that she did not make a claim on public funds. But in July 2005 she was allowed to remain indefinitely – and within two weeks after she got permanent stay, the Ilyas began claiming housing, council tax and income support for the girl.
84 years old man Ilyas Ashar, his wife Tallat Ashar, 68, convicted of benefit fraud of £30,000 by using the identity of girl and set up several bank accounts on her name. Their daughter named Faaiza Ashar, 46, was also involved in benefit fraud.
The girl never went to school in Pakistan or UK, but Ilyas taught her sign her name to claim benefits.
The girl wanted to return to her family in Pakistan almost from the moment she arrived in the UK – but the Ashars would not allow it.
The girl was often slapped or hit and would be dragged up the cellar stairs into the house if she did not come quickly enough when summoned.
Ilyas Ashar, 84, was found guilty of 13 counts of rape and jailed for 13 years and his wife is jailed for 5 years at Manchester Crown Court.
