Community Questions to IPCC Chairman and Police Chief for Failure of West Yorkshire Police

A LETTER TO WEST YORKSHIRE’S PCC MARK BURNS-WILLIAMSON AND CHIEF CONSTABLE DEE COLLINS FOLLOWING THE FATAL SHOOTING OF MOHAMMED YASSAR YAQUB by Just Yourshire, A leading project in the North of England promoting racial justice, human rights and equality.

Nadeem Murtuja Chairman of JUST Yorkshire wrote letter and raised following concerns.

Dear PCC Mark Burns-Williamson and Chief Constable Dee Collins,

In the light of emerging community tensions on fatal shooting of Yassar Yaqub by police officers from the West Yorkshire Police on the 2nd of January, JUST is writing to you to express our deep disappointment at the failure of the West Yorkshire Police.

We are therefore seeking clarification from West Yorkshire Police on following concerns.

Officers involved in the operation were not wearing body cameras ?

Can you confirm if the IPCC has set a timeline for this investigation ?

Yassar Yaqub was a Muslim and from Pakistani background, what measures will IPCC put in place to ensure that race is not discounted ?

Can the IPCC confirm they have agreed on what set of key lines of inquiry with Crime Commissioner and Police?

How will the IPCC ensure that the evidence is not compromised as a result of any potential time-lapse?
