A Charity ( Nazia Hassan Foundation Trust ) that is run by the mother of a former Pop Queen is launching an initiative which should help educate and in turn encourage the local BME Community to actively contribute food items to The Burngreave Foodbank ( Sheffield ).

Domestic Household Food waste, which compromises of tins of food, cereal, rice, flour is being wasted daily. It is estimated that some 6,700,000 tonnes of food was wasted in 2013 alone.

The Nazia Hassan Foundation Trust , a trust run in the name of the record breaking and award winning, iconic Pakistani, Pop, Singer (Nazia Hassan), is hoping to half that number by 2015 by encouraging local BME community to donate any excessive food items to The Darnall, Living Waters , which is a distribution centre of The Burngreave Food Bank.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony , the Legal Advisor and chief organiser of the initiative, Shahnaz Hussain from Sheffield said, ” Nazia Hassan was more than a pop queen , she was a ambassador for human rights. Her foundation trust stood for ” caring beyond boundaries “, If she was alive today she would feel very disappointed to learn that we were wasting food whilst our neighbours were suffering to secure a single , healthy hot cooked meal . By encouraging people to donate we will reduce wastage city wide”

Whilst the mother of The Pop Queen , and chair of the trust ( Mrs Muniza Basir ) said people often criticise how charities collect locally and donate internationally. My daughters heart was in London, hence the reason she rocked the Status Quo by fusing Eastern and Western Lyrics, It’s natural her charity focuses on the needs of local people ”

Anybody wanting to donate food items can contact The Burngreave Food Bank or The Living Waters in Darnall .
