Update: Mohammad Shafiqul Alom, 35, has been charged with murder of Akbar Masood at Manchester City Magistrates.
Akbar Masood, 22, was stabbed to death in Kellett Street, in Wardleworth, Rochdale, near the town centre, at around 4 am Friday morning. He was found by police with stab wounds to his abdomen. He was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital hospital, where he died a short time later.
Akbar Masood attended Falinge Park High School and Hopwood Hall College and prayed at Bilal Jamia Mosque.
According a neighbor Akbar was injured after he stepped in to protect another man when an altercation broke out.
Police arrested a 35 years old man who is believed to have been arrested at the scene – was at an unnamed police station in Greater Manchester today. A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in Rochdale.
Police and emergency services were called to Kellett Street, in Wardleworth, near the town centre, at around 4 am this morning and they started the investigation. No further details have been released by police.
