Helina Kotlarova,12, and Zaneta Krokova, 11, were holding hands while crossing road they were hit by a black VW Golf on Ashton Road in Hathershaw , Oldham, on Saturday night of new year.
The car did not stopped went off, Helina Kotlarova, 12, died at the scene while Zaneta Krokova, 11, was in critical condition and was taken to hospital fighting for life. She died in hospital earlier this morning from the injuries she suffered.
Both girls were with a larger group of their family members and friends who had already crossed the road, one of the main routes in and out of Oldham town centre, and the larger group was waiting on the opposite pavement.
Accident happened just yards away from their home, the friends who were waiting for them on other side of road, informed the family members about incident. Parents of Helina arrived on the scene but she was declared dead by medics as her mother stroked her hair.
Helina left 6 sisters and 1 brother behind her, and they hail from Czech Republic, came to England 8 years ago.
4 men – aged 59, 48, 38 and 18 – were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and were in custody for questioning. A fifth man, aged 23, initially arrested for the same offence was de-arrested and was assisting police with their inquiries.
