Wife of Dubai’s Ruler, Princess Haya, Flees to UK, Battles Billionaire in UK Court

Princess Haya, 45, of Jordan and wife of Dubai’s Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, 69, has run off to Europe with her children, son Zayed, 7, and daughter Al Jalila, 11.

As per reports, she has sought asylum in either Germany or the UK but she is currently residing at a secret location in the latter.

Billionaire ruler of Dubai is battling his wife for custody of their two children in a London court, in what is set to be one of the most expensive and fiercely contested such cases in UK history.

Princess Haya tied knot with Ruler in 2004, becoming his sixth and “junior wife”. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum has made an application to divorce his wife of 15 years, Princess Haya Bint al-Hussein, in the Family Court Division of the High Court, which will be heard by Sir Andrew McFarlane, its president, on July 30.

Princess Haya who is sheikh’s six wives, reportedly left the royal palace in Dubai last month for Germany.

Earlier, his daughters from another marriage, Sheikha Shamsa al-Maktoum and Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed al-Maktoum, attempted to escape before being intercepted by Emirati forces on their father’s order.

Sources close to her have said that Princess Haya had recently discovered disturbing facts behind the mysterious return to Dubai last year of Sheikha Latifa, one of the ruler’s daughters.

It is alleged, Princess Haya has learnt new facts about the case of Sheikha Latifa and consequently came under increasing hostility and pressure from members of her husband’s extended family until she no longer felt safe there.
