Faryal Makhdoom Khan argues that stay-at-home parents should be paid. She says the amount of time they work adds up to ninety hours per week. She likens the role of looking after the home and children to a ‘CEO of the house’.
The 27-year-old, who is married to boxer Amir Khan, appeared on Good Morning Britain to debate whether stay-at-home parents should be paid a wage.
“We’re not just looking after our children but the entire house. A CEO of the house that’s not getting paid. It’s laundry, cooking, cleaning, looking after your children, and I think when you put it all together, we should get paid more than a surgeon or a lawyer, it adds up to £100k a year, more than that,” she shared in conversation with hosts, Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway.
Speaking to hosts Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway Faryal argued: “Us staying home we’re working like 90 hours a week.
“We’re not just looking after our children but the entire house, the CEO of the house is not getting paid. It’s like laundry, cooking, cleaning looking after your children.
“And I think that when you put it all together we should get paid more than like a surgeon or a lawyer, it adds up to £100,000 a year, more than that.”
However, Amelle argued that having children is a choice adding: “If you choose to have children, you should bring your children up with love, I just can’t see it as a job.”
