A business leader has met with a violent attack in the street. He has been injured severely. Shahed Mahmood, a family man, was attacked in Accrington on Tuesday. He was immediately taken to the hospital. He is now stable but still in critical condition.
Mr. Mahmood is president of the Hyndburn Chamber of Trade. He has suffered from serious head injuries.
Police have arrested a man from Accrington on suspicion of assault. He is still in custody.
Miles Parkinson, the Hyndburn Council leader has expressed his feelings and said that Mr.Shahed is a man who is greatly respected and they are very concerned about his condition.
Graham Jones, MP for Hyndburn, said that he is greatly upset by the news because Shaheed is a very good friend and colleague. He also said that this violent incident is not acceptable at all and he wishes Mr. Shaheed all the best with his family.

The Lancashire police said that they were called a little after 5.50 pm when they received reports that a man in his 40s had been seriously injured in an attack by another man on Blackburn road in Accrington.
Inspector Neil Marr appealed the public to come forward if anyone has seen anything suspicious around that time and help in investigation.
