59-year-old Tasawar Ali, of Westcombe Court, Wyke, Bradford, pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Monika Sharma with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm.
Ali’s not guilty plea to attempted murder was accepted by prosecutor Jeremy Hill-Baker who said he had consulted Miss Sharma and the police.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Ali went to his Miss Sharma’s address in Longlands Street in Bradford city centre on 2 March and attacked her with two knives he retrieved from the cutlery drawer, inflicting several wounds on her.
Victim described the attacked by Ali as he was jealous she was getting married to man in London, he threaten to kill her and her fiance as well.
Ali attacked victim at her flat in Bradford with a knife and stabbed Miss Sharma in the stomach while he had his hand over her mouth to stop her from screaming.
Ali left victim in pool of blood, Miss Sharma was later assisted by a neighbour and a taxi driver, who called the emergency and police. Miss Sharma was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where she was treated for life threatening injuries.
